Seize chance to regulate yourself

I write with regard to your article about the General Teaching Council’s registration fee. I believe we can only have a GTC if we own it.

The Education Act demands that the GTC advise the Government. Teachers have never had that power before and we should grab this golden opportunity.

I joined the GTC to make a difference. I wanted to make my job more effective and remove the unnecessary burdens and distractions that detract from my core mission of educating young people of this country.

Teachers have never been trusted to regulate themselves before. The Government has always done it for us. But now, through the GTC, we have a chance to take control for ourselves. We cannot afford to strangle at birth an organisation that is already being heard by the Government, that belongs to teachers and has, already, listened to teachers.
