Senate approves raising of the school leaving age;Briefing;International

* The Senate has finally approved the raising of the school leaving age to 15. From next year, an estimated 32,000 pupils who would otherwise have left school will have to stay on for the first year of Scuola Superiore. The new law is the first stage in a planned reform of the system. Numerous previous attempts to raise the leaving age to 16 have come to nothing.
