I disagree with your correspondent (TES, October 28) with regard to Ted Wragg’s motivation when he writes about the Office for Standards in Education or, indeed, other government innovations.

I do not believe that he is being either mischievous or misleading. The essence of satire is that it must have a sound basis of truth and that its target must be both pompous and absurd.

Professor Wragg’s writing is hilarious, but it always makes a deadly serious point. It is a pity that more people of his stature in education do not have the integrity to expose what is happening behind the jargon. In this “are they mad or is it me?’’ situation, it is Ted who keeps us sane. More, please!
