The previous regime at the Scottish Office used to be accused of the “Anglicisation” of Scottish education, importing alien notions from that system of excellence south of the border.
But are we now witnessing the “Oslerisation” of Scottish education? Douglas Osler, the senior chief inspector, is everywhere. He is vice-chairman of the action group on standards, chairs the implementation group on 5-14 and heads the Higher Still development group. Last week it was announced that he was to lead the revived working party on value-added measures.
This is clearly an attempt to take over from Bart McGettrick, principal of St Andrew’s College and formerly known as the Man Who Was Everywhere (everywhere, that is, except St Andrew’s College). Bart, art thou sleeping there below?
