Your piece entitled “Heads and deputies lead the way to union mergers” (TES, March 28) states that the sticking point in any NAHTSHA merger is SHA’s insistence that there should be some form of separate voice for heads of secondary schools.
This was not a sticking point when NAHT and SHA last held discussions, nor should it be. Secondary heads, primary heads, special school heads, and deputies would all need a distinctive voice in a merged association.
If both NAHT and SHA favour a merger, there should be no real difficulty in ensuring that the very obvious special needs of different sectors can be properly catered for. Where there is a will, there is a way!
