During the 10 years of its existence, Comic Relief, which organises the biennial Red Nose Day, has produced informative school and teaching resource packs which combine serious statistics with a little light-hearted scattiness.
This year, the Red News Day Handbook has been launched to help schools gain an insight into how the media works and how to use public relations skills to get stories across to the local community.
The reason being that young people form the most ardent supporters of this fund-raising initiative, with some 60 per cent of schools taking part in Red Nose Day in 1995. Young people are also among the chief beneficiaries of the money raised, from the homeless in London to the poor in Africa.
The free handbook gives advice on how to write press releases. Details: ring 01795 427614.
