I’m intrigued to see Learning and Teaching Scotland’s perception of home economics. In their recent consultation on citizenship, when they proposed that it should not be a separate subject but rather permeate the curriculum, they suggested home economics as a possible vehicle.
Now the new guidelines on sex education give home economics a similar role for that sensitive opic. In my day home economics was largely about making cakes and aprons.
Mark you, when I put this to one dinosaur, he said it seemed to him quite appropriate as home economics taught girls that it was their job to cook and look after the house. There are some parts political correctness has yet to reach.
