Shaky response

NEW new questions for the English key stage 3 exam. "In Shakespeare's Henry IV Falstaff isn't very brave and will do anything to avoid a fight, especially one he cannot win. Now imagine he is made Education Secretary (looking at Charles Clarke, it isn't difficult).

"1. Discuss how Falstaff would respond to a teacher (let's call him Nathaniel, or Nate) who points out that if 14-year-olds are to be tested on Shakespeare they should at least be expected to read him.

"2. Write a memo to the minister outlining how the test can be 'improved'

so that, a) Tony Blair isn't asked a parliamentary question and b) the Daily Mail doesn't get on his back."
