What sort of motivation gets children and parents into school at 6am? Sharks. Children at East Wittering Primary School, West Sussex, made the early start last term for a video-conference with Fred Nucifora and his team at the Great Barrier Reef, Australia. They saw black-tipped reef sharks and a host of other ocean life as Fred’s diver took them by camera into the crystal depths. It was hard to stop them writing in the following literacy sessions. The visit was just one of a range of video-conferencing activities hosted by the Global-Leap organisation, part of the government-funded Video-conferencing in the Classroom Project.
