Q If you had David Blunkett’s budget what would your priority be?

A To support small rural schools such as our own. We have 45 children on roll and we need the staff to cater for the wide ability range. The school is the heart of the village. Last month we had a millennium celebration for the old folks and it was a lovely afternoon. If you took the school away there would be nothing left. There’s no post office, no pu,no shop.

Q If you had a blank cheque for your own school what would you buy?

A A new school hall so we can do PE and dance and gymnastics. Our original building was knocked down to make way for a motorway in 1960 and our school was designed by the Ministry of Transport, which has a lot to answer for.

Q What treat would you buy yourself?

A A sabbatical to study education in Canada.
