GTP students (such as me) are trained alongside those studying for the postgraduate certificate in education for a couple of hours a week for about half an academic year. This is sufficient time to gain an awareness of how little he or she knows. The rest of the time is spent in school, where mentors are unaware of the teaching aims of the student's university, and the teaching practice it promotes.
In schools where GTP trainees are prematurely raised to full-time ownership of a class, there is precious little time to evolve into a professional with broad curriculum knowledge.
