Police are investigating reports of shots being fired in a brawl outside South Thames College which left two teenagers injured.

About 15 people were involved in the fight at lunchtime last Wednesday outside the entrance to the Wandsworth High Street campus in south London, with witnesses telling police that shots had been fired into the brawl, although no one suffered firearms injuries.

Police said one teenager was stabbed but did not sustain life-threatening injuries, while another teenager, confirmed as a student at the college, was treated for minor injuries after reportedly being hit with a billiard ball.

A police spokeswoman said: “Two males suffered injuries and were both taken to local hospitals. Officers from Trident are in charge of the investigation, and we are investigating reports that shots were fired.”

A college spokeswoman said staff were working with police, and added that the college had a rigorous security system including entrance barriers, a “no ID, no entry” policy for students and staff, and security guards positioned throughout the campus.

College principal Sue Rimmer said: “The safety of our students is of utmost importance and we have zero tolerance of any violent activity.”

The 18-year-old was attacked after a confrontation with a gang of six outside the college gates. He was chased into the garden of a nearby house where he was stabbed twice, in the left leg and the right arm. Although he was taken to hospital, his injuries were not serious.

The arrested 16-year-old and 17-year-old were released on police bail until next month.
