With special educational needs at the top of the agenda following the implementation of the Code of Practice, The National Association for Special Educational Needs (NASEN) and The Educational Publishers Council (EPC) are again holding the London Special Needs Exhibition at the Business Design Centre in Islington.
The exhibition and series of seminars provide an opportunity to keep in touch with new developments and explore new ideas. Around 200 providers of special needs resources will form the core of the exhibition.
This year, the organisers have involved SEMERC, which will mount a Micros for Special Needs village, reflecting the growing importance of new technology in the classroom.
The exhibition is free and provides an opportunity for governors, parents and SEN professionals to see and evaluate resources.
The seminar programme has been expanded to 21 seminars over the two days.
Current concerns are highlighted in seminars dealing with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (EBD) and inclusive schooling.
In addition, the seminar programme caters for teachers concerned about practical problems in areas such as literacy, mathematics, dyslexia, and the preparation of individual education plans.
Entrance to the seminars is by ticket only, priced at Pounds 6 each.
The NASEN special educational needs awards ceremony will take place at the exhibition on November 6.
Now well established, and keenly contested, the NASEN awards attract a growing interest from a large number of publishers of academic and children’s books, as well as software and hardware developers.
All entries will be on display and a judges’ report will appear in next week’s TES.
