The nominations are in for The TES’s first official awards ceremony for England and Wales.

The TES Schools Awards, which will reward teamwork and excellence, will be held at London’s Park Lane Hilton on Tuesday June 9.

Jane Hutt, the education minister, said the awards were an opportunity to show off Wales’s schools and teachers on a national stage.

Any Welsh winners will also be treated to a post-awards celebration at the Senedd in Cardiff Bay.

Ed Balls, England’s Schools Secretary, has also pledged his support for the awards, which will include Olympic medal-winner Dame Kelly Holmes among its judges.

There are 16 awards, including primary and secondary schools of the year and an award for the best school dinners.

The shortlist will be announced in May. All finalists will get free places so some staff can attend the lunch.
