Shropshire pupils will work for world peace and an end to poverty between maths and double gym - or they may spend their time abolishing school and making plans to dispense chocolate on the NHS.

To mark Local Democracy Week, primary pupils across the county have been asked to consider what they would do if they ruled the world.

Pupils will be able to present their manifestos for world rule in the form of poetry, song, creative writing or artwork.

Meanwhile, secondary pupils are encouraged to be more circumspect in a competition that asks them to imagine what actions they would take if they were in charge of the county’s schools and youth facilities. Their manifestos should be put in writing.

Aggie Caesar-Homden, council cabinet member for children and young people’s services, said: “We always welcome input from all young people into what happens, both within and beyond their local community.”

Winners will be announced at a ceremony in Shrewsbury in November, and the successful entries will be displayed at the Shirehall. Details of the events have been sent to local schools. The deadline is October 19. AB
