Si to junior languages

PARLEZ-VOUS francais? Primary school children are to be given the opportunity to learn languages under a government strategy launched this week. But in secondary schools pupils will have the option to drop languages at 14.

Secondary language teacher Jane Halsall, of St Edward's College in Liverpool, already works with seven primary schools. The city's success in introducing languages to primary schoolchildren is now to be copied elsewhere in the country.
