If you haven’t already checked out the dbass website, it’s time to take a look. More than 120 musical compositions have already been posted. And winning entries will pick up prizes on the TES stand at the BETT educational technology show at Olympia, London, in January 2005. Created by award-winning online specialists Synergy.tv, dbass is a space where students can present music and collaborate with peers to discuss, create and publish.

If you want to hear vibrant, energetic and authentic work, see www.dbass.org. Register if you want to take part.

Nearly 50 schools, from inner-city comprehensives to the Yehudi Menuhin International School of Music have registered for a trial dbass station.

The site highlights two offerings it feels are worthy and lets visitors click their own top ten. Visits have been peaking at 1,700 a day.

How do teachers like it? This is the feedback from Mark Fidler at Belper School in Derbyshire:“We finally have a purpose and an outlet that reaches beyond the four walls of the classroom. Students are producing real music for a real purpose and for real listeners; they get real feedback. This has led to enthusiasm, drive, commitment and energy.”
