THERE IS no better way for a politician to compliment a newspaper or journalist than to condemn them publicly. Criticism such as made by Brian Wilson (TESS, August 21) tends to reinforce the view that the press must be doing a good job to get so noticeably under the skin of a Government minister.
Mr Wilson took the opportunity to criticise others, including by inference his own former Scottish Office advisers. It would have been much more appropriate if he had headed to his new office in silence instead of breaking with tradition and standing on his successor’s toes.
It just goes to prove that even the most thin-skinned of political leopards can never change his spots.
