An idiot’s guide to the national curriculum was launched this week by the Welsh and English curriculum authorities, writes Clare Dean.
Designed to provide an introduction to the revised national curriculum and its assessment arrangements, the booklet is aimed principally at student teachers.
But, as the School Curriculum and Assessment Authority points out, the 64-page booklet may prove useful to anyone involved in education as a starting point to understanding the national curriculum.
The Pounds 5 booklet - A Guide to the National Curriculum - defines the differences in the Welsh and English national curricula.
It has been produced by SCAA and the Curriculum and Assessment Authority for Wales with the co-operation of the Teacher Training Agency. Copies have been sent to teacher training institutions.
SCAA issued two other new publications this week - Teaching and learning English as an additional language: new perspectives and Planning the curriculum for pupils with profound and multiple learning difficulties.
All three documents can be ordered by writing to SCAA Publications, PO Box 235, Hayes, Middlesex, UB3 1HF.
