King’s Park Secondary has hit a high note this year. The school’s jazz band won the inaugural Glasgow Schools Jazz Com petition in June, taking home the Chick McCafferty Cup, named after the late convener of the city’s education service. Later that month, they played at the formal opening of Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum. Two senior girls, Claire Philips (S5) and Jessica Ryan (S6), won the Bridgeton Burns Competition earlier this month for their duet of “Ae Fond Kiss”, and the Memorial Trophy for best overall performance. And to crown it all, 200 young musicians (almost a fifth of the school roll) took part in a Christmas concert last week, which had to move to the local church to accommodate the audience.
