Want to become a world expert on volcanoes? If so, or if you simply wish to test the knowledge you already have, then don’t miss this explosive site created by a team of three teenagers living on three different continents.
It has just the right combination of facts and fun for both teachers and students. Students can join in exercises such as moulding and moving plasticine blocks to “see” what happens when two tectonic plates move towards each other. Teachers can download geography lesson plans from a teacher in Singapore.
The site’s glossary will ensure that you can tell your “pahoehoe” from your “solfatara”. Users are also encouraged to pool their collective knowledge by adding to the site’s extensive volcano database and to submit their own favourite volcano books and Web sites by filling in a simple form.
This imaginative site even has its own amusing volcano-related comic strips (such as “Galvin the Volcano Guy”) and invites the public to invent and submit their own.
