Here’s a new site that delivers what could very easily be life-saving information. In doing so, it also offers a glimpse of how effective a national learning grid could be if resources of this quality were accessible in libraries, waiting rooms and shopping centres, as well as schools and colleges.

The site, produced by the British HIV Association and the National Aids Manual, is aimed at doctors and patients, carers, friends and relatives of sufferers - and teachers. It addresses all in a style which is neither patronising nor over-laden with jargon. Its coverage - from a basic explanation of what Aids is, through drug treatments, therapies and symptoms - is exhaustive. Updated each week, and intelligently linked, this could be a model for public service information web sites.
