How stuff works

www.howstuffworks.com

Don’t let the title of this site put you off. It may brashly lay claim to being the coolest site on the Internet and be full of American slang, but the content lives up to its claim that it is a “great place to come to learn about how things work in the world around you.”

The site’s creator takes a lively look at questions that children might ponder. How does a television work? How does a CD work? How can a computer play chess? Each question is explored thoroughly and explained in simple terms so that you don’t have to be a rocket scientist to grasp the technical wizardry.

Diagrams of car engines in motion and the inside of a toilet are but a few of the many illustrations used to help you understand and marvel at technology.

The Food Foundation

www.fooddirectory.co.uk

Long live the British spud! This web site aims to provide teachers and students of nutrition and food hygiene with easy access to information on a wide range of food-related organisations including the Mushroom Bureau, the British Chicken Information Service and the British Potato Council.

Search the site for the organisation you want and you can call up the relevant contact details, Web sites links and information on the teaching resource packs.

Some areas, such as News and Views, Top 10s and Recommendations are still in need of development, but the basic directory of food organisations is a useful start.
