Bizarre stuff you can make in your kitchen - http:freeweb.pdq.netheadstrongindex.htm

Describing itself as a “warped semi-scientific cookbook of tricks, gimmicks, and pointless experiment-ation”, this site will appeal to would-be boffins the world over.

The author is the type of person who regards the words, “don’t try this at home” as a challenge.

Projects range from the quaint to the sinister. There are dozens of more or less sensible experiments in between, with cute 1950s-style illustrations.

They are graded into “safe”, “moderate”, “advanced” and “downright dangerous”, which includes the infamous glowing gherkin trick - which, boys and girls, really must NOT be tried at home.
