The new six-term year was introduced in more than 1,500 schools across the country this week. The shift from the traditional three-term system to four six-week and two seven-week terms has been adopted by 12 councils.

Advocates argue that a fixed fortnight’s holiday in October and April will help spread teachers’ workload throughout the year and ease stress in schools.
