Skewered at both ends by Sats

Last week my batch of marked English Sats papers arrived back at school.

For the fifth year out of the past eight we are returning papers for re-marking. Talented work being given the same marks as talentless work.

Serious inconsistencies in applying the mark scheme. We are now caught by a double whammy. Skewered at both ends of the testing process. Hopeless question design, hapless marking. We and our students writhe helplessly in the middle. And now Education Secretary Ruth Kelly will use them in encouraging parents to oust seemingly underperforming teachers. Being boiled alive can’t feel much worse than this!
