Ski deals

What can skiing in Scotland offer? Quite a lot and at a lot less than the cost of trips to the Alps, according to Richard Eccles, who runs packages at Nethy House at Nethybridge in the Cairngorm area. He is a ski instructor.

Mr Eccles has taken exception to a London reviewer who lambasted Scottish skiing. He says: “It is not cheaper to ski on the Continent. You would be extremely lucky to get away with a six-day package for under Pounds 460, all inclusive.

“Here, around Aviemore, a Warwickshire school is being offered a six-night (five-days’ skiing) package with packed lunch, alternative activities in the event of poor weather and evening entertainment for Pounds 279 including VAT.

“Nethy House would offer the same package for Pounds 212. I have excluded VAT because schools skiing in the UK can get their VAT back.”

He points out many schools only want to be away Monday to Friday and can take a coach up North easily. A four-night package could cost as little as Pounds 169.
