Skills under threat

The Government needs to invest in the skills base of the processing and manufacturing industries, according to the sector’s training body. Proskills, the sector skills council, said a crisis was threatening the future of the industry, which comprises 80,000 companies employing more than 1 million people. “The Government needs to do more to recognise the process and manufacturing industry and support skills growth,” said Terry Watts, Proskills chief executive.
