Slope off to Switzerland

Given the recent weather, you may feel you’ve seen enough snow. Perhaps you considered skiing to school. For those who prefer their snow drifting over mountains and chalets rather than tower blocks and traffic jams, Switzerland has always been a favourite. Luxury chalet specialist Total Holidays is offering discounts of at least pound;100 per person for the rest of the season at some of its Verbier chalets. As well as the usual ski schools for children and adults, Verbier caters for advanced skiers and snowboarders, with lots of opportunities for off-piste skiing. The resort recently installed new lifts.

Chalet Savoleyres, close to the Savoleyres gondola, offers views across Verbier from its balcony and a cosy retreat for unwinding in front of a log fire. The price of pound;749 per person in the half-term week starting February 16 includes Sunday return flights from Gatwick, transfers and seven nights’ catered chalet accommodation (daily breakfast and afternoon tea plus an evening meal six days a week). Birmingham and Manchester departures are available for a supplement of pound;19 and pound;22 respectively. Details and brochures from Total Holidays: 08701 633 633; www.skitotal.com.
