I WOULD like to thank Joan Dalton for trying to draw attention to the inclusion agenda (TES, June 29), as mainstream schools are required to cope with autistic children in the context of diminishing levels of external support.

Our son has a statement for Asperger's syndrome and dyspraxia, but the LEA will grant only three visits a year by a specialist teacher for communication disorders when he goes to secondary school in September.

It is ironic that there is no specialist provision for children with similar needs in Cornwall, but we do have the choice between a specialist languages college with beacon status and a specialist sports college. We have decided to pass on Japanese and Russian, and are putting our faith in the fabled tortoise winning the race, despite all the odds.
