A teacher who smacked a child with a newspaper did not receive enough support to control her “challenging” class, the General Teaching Council has said. Corinne McGuire admitted hitting the pupil while working at Maryport C of E Junior School in Cumbria, but was cleared of charges of kicking another child, pulling the hair of a pupil and pushing two others. Mrs McGuire was allowed to keep teaching by the GTC panel.
