Back to a meeting of the Scottish Parliament’s education committee and its inquiry into the Additional Support for Learning Bill. Rhona Brankin, former sports and arts minister, who is now residing on the backbenches, was forced to declare an interest as Gwynedd Lloyd of Edinburgh University prepared to give evidence.

“I am related to Gwynedd Lloyd - she is my sister,” the Midlothian Labour MSP declared.

Cue Dr Lloyd: “First, I note that none of us is responsible for our relations.”
