Young smokers admit that rebelliousness and boredom prompt them to smoke, especially when they are under stress, according to a survey conducted by psychologists at the University of Teesside. Non-smokers in the same age group, 14- to 16-year olds, thought that smoking had different causes: peer pressure, smoking by a best friend and the smoker’s self-image.
