(Photograph) - Every week Dorset peripatetic music teacher Clare Dawson covers 100 miles to visit the seven primary schools in the “Bridport cluster”, a pilot scheme for ensemble work set up in September last year through the the county’s music service. Each of the seven schools now has a band of between 10 and 31 instrumentalists, all aged between seven and 11. Clare travels with all the instruments in her “Daisy” car - a painted estate - which she describes as a “travelling music shop”. The bands have come together once this year for a combined concert - another performance is scheduled for July.
