But not all teachers were cursing the white stuff last week. The Diary received a delightful account from Gillian Gallerwood, a teacher at Ley Hill primary, Buckinghamshire - one of a select group of home counties schools that stayed open on Friday.
“We followed our own tracks, buried each other up to the neck, threw ourselves on the floor and slid on our bellies... Laid on our backs and made angels. Found fox tracks that led we assumed to fox wee. Made snow heaps. It was too cold for the snow to stick together properly for snowmen... so we made tracks like dinosaurs and kangaroos to trick other children. We dumped snow on each other’s heads - and the children had a great time too.”
