Home link workers may be paying dividends for children’s and even their parents’ health in Renfrewshire - but the Scottish National Party wants more school nurses in schools, particularly in Scotland’s most deprived areas.
The campaign, launched by SNP deputy leader Nicola Sturgeon, and shadow health minister Shona Robison at Hill’s Trust primary in Govan, Glasgow, is the first in a series of proposals by the party to improve child health and tackle health inequalities.
Ms Sturgeon said: “By doubling the number of nurses in our schools we can focus on preventing ill health, particularly in areas of deprivation.
Instead of a one-off health assessment when children start school, the SNP want children to have a health programme throughout their school lives.”
Ms Robison said: “School nurses, who will work with parents and children, will be key in delivering this policy.”
