Georgina Singleton, 26, a maths teacher from Furze Platt school in Maidenhead, missed out on an Olympic medal this week, losing a quarter-final of the 52kg judo event.

Meanwhile PE teacher Tandi Gerrard, 26, and teaching trainee Jane Smith, 28, were fourth in the three-metre synchronised dive.

Commonwealth champion and Devon PE teacher Michaela Breeze came ninth in the 58kg women’s weightlifting.

But hopes are high for rower and chemistry teacher Alison Mowbray, 33, in the final of the women’s quadruple sculls on Sunday.
