As schools return for the new session, we review Brian Wilson’s first three months as Education Minister and the impact on schools.

Sadly, the decision to end the assisted places scheme cuts off a much appreciated avenue of support for many deserving children.

This term, schools will be scrutinising the Dearing and Garrick reports. Doubts about the Advanced Higher and its currency must be quickly dispelled. The Government should not sit back as so much is at stake. Teacher training must be revalued so as to encourage high calibre students in all subjects.
