Soham figures raise undue fears

Your article “Soham advice ignored by 60% of schools” (June 5) appears to be based solely on the take-up of the online National Council for School Leadership course.

In reality, many governors like me, headteachers and other school staff with responsibility for recruitment have attended safer recruitment training courses led by accredited local authority staff.

However, it would seem that those attending courses in person have not been taken into account in the Government’s figures. This is likely to raise unwarranted fear and concern among parents at a time when governors and school staff have invested considerable time and effort in trying to avoid the appointment of candidates who may be a danger to pupils.
