The community support officers and civil enforcement officers will “give advice” to parents and move on vehicles parked in dangerous places.

The initiative will take place at 24 schools across the district during the first few weeks of term and will include schools in Bath, Keynsham, and Midsomer Norton.

Pete Mountstephen, headteacher at St Stephen’s CofE Primary School in Bath, said: “The Georgian urban environment surrounding the school simply wasn’t built for cars so it makes the task very difficult.

“We want parents to take more notice of road markings and restrictions to reduce the risk of any accidents.”

Carolyn Banfield, headteacher at St John’s Church of England Primary School in Midsomer Norton, said: “We welcome this effort to encourage parents to park their vehicles responsibly. The school has campaigned for many years to encourage parents to park considerately, so this initiative is a welcome boost.”
