Somerset’s county services, which provide school lunches to 88 schools, are collaborating with the School Food Trust to trial the use of Twitter to inform parents about what their child is eating.

Each morning from the start of the autumn term, parents and carers will receive a tweet showing them what is on the menu that day.

They will also be told about special theme days, taster sessions and how to apply for free school meals.

Chris Wainwright from the School Food Trust said: “Our ambition is for every local education authority to use Twitter to help parents make the right choices for their children.”
