ST FILLAN’S primary in Glasgow finished its summer term with The Wizard of Oz, a primary 7 musical extravaganza of which any school could be proud.
On the first night, however, the young actors became somewhat remote from the orchestra which had to seek a place out in the infant department. When the school was built in the mid-1970s, all open plan and an architect’s dream, no one thought about a stage in the hall and an orchestra to boot.
But the ever resourceful heidie came up with a solution for nights two and three. Shutters on the Fuel Zone’s serving hatches were raised aloft to convert the servery into an orchestra pit. So instead of turkey drummers coming forth, out came the sound of real drumming.
