Singing about zebra crossings and seat belts may not get you on Top of the Pops, but it might help save a few lives. Road Safety Songs for School Assemblies is a CD available to all UK schools and education authorities. The 11 songs are for key stages 1 and 2. Those for younger children deal with topics such as walking beside busy roads, what to do when you’re lost and holding hands as you cross. Their older brothers and sisters can sing about school trips, safe cycling and being conspicuous - “reflective jumpers are really cool”. The CD is available by emailing Rospa; words and music can be downloaded from the Rospa website, where you can also access a set of road safety assembly plans.
