Government “pseudo educationalists and bureaucrats” should not be telling prep schools what to teach children, according to a leading prep school head. John Tranmer, the in-coming chair of the Independent Association of Prep Schools (IAPS), said it was a “sorry day” for the sector when it lost the freedom to choose its own curriculum for under-fives. The comments are part of wider fears that the Early Years Foundation Stage is limiting the freedoms associated with independent nurseries and reception classes. In a speech to the IAPS conference in Jersey, Mr Tranmer said schools are trying to make the new curriculum work because “we have no choice”.
