Dyslexia can be reduced significantly by targeting lessons at the youngest children, according to researchers at York university.
They found that intensive “sound-linkage” sessions, which cultivate pupils’
ability to recognise letters by their sound, produced gains after only 10 weeks.
The study, involving 80 five- and six-year-olds in 13 schools, improved the test scores of the poorest spellers in each year by seven points on average.
