My Year 2 class has been "big book" mad since we began trialling the literacy hour - a new one every week. We've even looked at poems blown up to A3 size, highlighted rhyming words and covering up adjectives with Post-Its.

It's 9.30am and we're all sitting on the mat reading aloud from the shared text. It's now 9.45am and it's going well.

"Where is today's story set?" I ask.

Eager hands shoot up and Ben is chosen to reply.

"It's set on the new big book stand you bought, Miss."

There's not a lot more you can say about the literacy hour.
