My Year 7 class were looking at Hindu social structure - family groups and roles in life.

I asked pupils to do a fact-finding homework in the religious education section of the library and find the meanings of the words “caste” and “reincarnation”.

Most pupils completed the task well, with short written explanations of each. But one boy wrote:

“Caste: hereditary system into which Hindu system is divided.

“Reincarnation: cultivated flower found in a variety of colours (eg, red, pink and yellow).”
