During recent key stage 2 SATs I asked a pupil why he wasn’t wearing his glasses in the exam. He replied: “I only need them for reading, this is maths.”

My Year 4s struggled with the last answer on their Golden Jubilee crossword: three letters ending in “b”. The picture clue showed a circle with a cross on so they decided it was the Queen’s “gob”.
