* The Year 1 discussion centred on “people who work at night”. The children had many ideas: police, doctors, postmen, milkmen and so on. They were running out of ideas whe a boy at the back put his hand up. “I know, Miss. The tooth fairy,” he said with a toothless grin.

* The annual round of christmas card-giving contained the usual spelling mistakes from key stage 1 and 2 pupils. Our favourite this season was an envelope carefully addressed by a Year 4 pupil to the “well fair ladies”.
