* One of my duties as a PGCE student was to conduct the “Word for the Day” during morning registration. One morning’s offering was “genocide”, a grisly word that needed breaking down fr Year 8. I told them that anything ending in “cide” referred to death, and gave them pesticide as an example. One pupil then asked: “What’s Brookside?”
